Jean-P Meunier
Associate Immigration Lawyer
Jean-Patrice Meunier brings 13 years of experience and a rare depth of perspective to his immigration practice at The Legal Café. Admitted to the Ontario Bar in 2013, he has built a reputation for tackling the most complex and high-stakes immigration matters: from deportation defence and humanitarian and compassionate applications to business immigration, judicial reviews, and appeals before the Federal Court.
Before entering private practice, Jean-Patrice served as an Immigration and Citizenship Program Specialist with Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada, giving him an insider's understanding of how the system works, and where it can be navigated most effectively. That experience, combined with years of litigation and solo practice, informs an approach that is both strategic and practical.
In 2025, Jean-Patrice successfully argued a reported Federal Court decision (2025 FC 1835), a milestone that reflects his skill in high-level immigration litigation. Alongside his immigration work, he also advises clients on intellectual property, contracts, and corporate matters.
Jean-Patrice holds a Licence en droit civil (LL.L) from the University of Ottawa and a Juris Doctor in North American Common Law from the Université de Montréal, a dual legal education that gives him fluency across both of Canada's (and the US’) legal traditions. His undergraduate studies in Physics and Film Production speak to a mind that is as analytical as it is creative.
Calm, thorough, and easy-going by nature, Jean-Patrice is drawn to the complex cases others find daunting. He has a particular talent for finding non-obvious solutions to difficult problems; the kind of work that matters most when the stakes are highest.
Outside the office, Jean-Patrice is a person of eclectic pursuits. He writes and records his own music, tinkers with home automation and programming, and finds equal satisfaction in the kitchen — whether cooking, baking, or perfecting a recipe. He also tends to a collection of bonsai, a practice that rewards the same patience and attention to detail that defines his work as a lawyer.
